Biopsychology
Course Description
This course will examine the development and function of the brain.
It will assess various sensory systems, and how neural processes inform the human experience through sleep, sex, emotion, hunger, and other aspects of consciousness. An assessment of the causes of brain damage and various psychiatric disorders will also be reviewed.
This course is the first in a two part series covering a general study of life processes, emphasizing basic concepts of biology suitable as a general education elective for non-science majors.
Highly Recommended Prerequisite: High School Diploma or equivalent and Psychology I (PSY102) or equivalent

Course Structure
Lectures
Classes begin with intensive lectures (up to five hours) led by experienced instructors. Through a mix of presentations and small-group discussions, students learn to tie key foundational concepts to clinical practice and other real-world applications.
Labs
Lab courses provide hands-on experiences that complement the lectures. SCU students enjoy dedicated resources, including chemistry, microbiology, and anatomy labs.
Student Support
Tutoring in any subject is available to fit student schedules. SCU students can also take advantage of exclusive health sciences workshops and symposiums offered by the University.
